Connection Between Master and Disciple
Let me give you an example to illustrate the difference between a teacher on the physical level
and a teacher on the spiritual level.
If you want to learn music, mathematics, a new language, or any other subject, your eyes are open—
you are seeking knowledge. Your connection to your teacher may not be particularly strong
because you are primarily interested in their knowledge.
You may not even like your teacher on a personal level, and yet, you can still learn from them.
The spiritual journey, however, is different. It’s not about simply acquiring knowledge,
because spirituality goes beyond that—it’s about witnessing, experiencing, and discovering.
It transcends mere knowing, which is why we often call it the unknown. On this path, your eyes are metaphorically closed; you move forward with trust, even without seeing clearly.
This is why a deep connection with your teacher is so essential.
You must have profound trust and absolute surrender because, with your eyes closed,
you place your hand in theirs, allowing them to guide you.
In this sense, it’s easier to have a music teacher or a yoga instructor than a true spiritual master.
