Whatever you wish to do on a physical level, it is often easier—or at least faster—when you have a guide or teacher. Of course, anyone can learn to play music or dance on their own. Anyone can climb to the top of a mountain alone. But with a guide, the journey or study becomes more understandable, easier, and quicker.

However, when it comes to the inner world and the spiritual journey, the situation is far more sensitive. It is not like the physical world, where things are visible. The inner world is invisible and unknown. There are also factors in the internal journey that are either absent in the external world or do not play such a significant role—factors like connection, trust, surrender, and longing. These elements make your journey more secure and give you strength along the way.

Beyond this, you need someone who has already walked this path and completed the journey. A guide can help keep you on course when you are at risk of getting lost. And it is easy to get lost—because this path is entirely unknown.
